I’m a freelance designer and artist currently finishing my BFA in Fabric Design and a Certificate in Personal and Organizational Leadership at the University of Georgia.

The past few years have been a collection of experiences that have shaped how I think about design — from summers spent interning in New York City, learning the rhythm of both interiors and apparel, to studying art in Italy on academic scholarship. I also participated in the Institute for Leadership Advancement at UGA, an experience that deepened my belief that creativity and leadership go hand in hand.

I see design as more than craft; it’s a form of fine art that we have the privilege to live with every day. My inspiration often comes from design history and literature — the stories, textures, and moments that remind me why I fell in love with making in the first place.

Freelance Artist & Designer

CAPPIE HOUSTON MAY

I’m endlessly fascinated by art history and design history—there’s something about understanding the why behind aesthetics that makes the how so much richer. I love digging into the stories, movements, and cultural shifts that shaped design, and that curiosity keeps me evolving as a designer. When it comes to my work, the process of screen printing and block printing plays a huge role. There’s this tactile, intentional quality to these techniques that I’m drawn to—every mark, every layer matters. The rhythm of printing, the imperfections that come with it, and the hands-on nature of the process all influence how I approach design. For me, it’s not just about the final piece; it’s about the process, the history behind the techniques, and how they inform modern design thinking.
